I have an old ho laptop. It shutdown on me because it needed an upgrade. Wasn’t able to afford upgrade this was in the mid 2000s. Just want to know will it be safe to throw away because all my information is still on it?

Remove the hard drive, hit it a few times with a hammer (wear protective eye covering to be safe), and then you throw the drive in the trash, and you can bring the PC to a local PC repair shop that will take broken PC's for recycling. Most of them usually will.
Then your PC will not have any data on it that could be accessed by an unauthorized person.
