Bit of a weird one here;

bios update instructions on the system (it will not update over network grrr)...

Instructions on BIOS update screen

USB Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New folder

The issue is I'm not clear on how to create that file structure because of the "\", is it just a straightforward folder tree

USB

Hewlett-Packard

/ BIOS

/New

bios update file/s

or is there something specific I need to do create a modified system using "\" specifically

Then prompted by the laptop to ensure that the USB contains a folder "Hewlett-Packard\BIOSupdate"

Perhaps someone can advise as it's confused me being used to "/" as file separators...

TIA

Hi  @invo

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand how the folder path format can seem a little unclear, especially when the instructions use "" as a separator.

In most cases, the BIOS recovery USB simply requires a standard folder structure on the USB drive. The path Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New means:

USB Drive -  Hewlett-Packard - BIOS - New

The BIOS files should be placed inside the New folder. The "" symbol is just being used to show the folder hierarchy and does not require any special formatting on the USB drive.

To help us provide the most accurate guidance, could you kindly share:

  • Are you performing a BIOS update or a BIOS recovery?
  • What operating system are you using to create the USB drive (Windows, Linux, etc.)?
  • Did you download the BIOS package directly from the HP Support website?

In the meantime, you may try the following steps:

  1. Kindly ensure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32.
  2. Download the latest BIOS package for your model from the HP Support website.
  3. Run the BIOS package and select the option to create a recovery USB (if available).
  4. Verify that the folder structure on the USB appears as:
  5. Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current
  6. Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New
  7. Connect the USB drive directly to the notebook and retry the BIOS update/recovery process.

You may also refer to the HP support document below, which explains BIOS recovery and creating a BIOS recovery USB drive:

I hope this helps.
