How can I best connect my HP Notebook -15- dw1741ng to a soundbar? I tried to use an optical cable in order to do this. (By sticking a simple adapter in the shape of the end fitting of an AUX cable on an optical cable. Then I put this end fitting into the HEADPHONE INPUT slot of my laptop.) Yet this led to nothing. What kind of adapter do I have to put on my optical cable in order to connect it correctly to my soundbar?

Hi,
To go from 3.5mm headphone slot to optical you will need some kind of converter to convert from analog to digital.
Example
do you not have any other inputs on the soundbar? As you will be going from digital > analog > digital > analog
Hope it helps,
David

Thank you!
My laptop's single HDMI Output slot is already connected to the separate monitor. There is no second HDMI Output slot.
(1) Is there an HDMI adapter available on the market that I could plug into the one HDMI Output slot on the laptop which could have pluggged in an HDMI cable to the monitor and that could have plugged in plug an HDMI cable to the soundbar? Is there such an adapter into which 2 HDMI cables can be plugged into?
(2) Is there an adapter available on the market into which could be plugged in an optical cable that goes from the laptop to the soundbar via the USB Output slot on the laptop or via the USB 3 socket ("SS" Superspeed)?
(3) Or should I just connect my laptop via an AUX cable to the soundbar? Is the sound in this case better than by using the product you mentioned that is available on Amazon?

Hi,
I think the best is to connect to the aux on the soundbar.
You could get a high quality cable.
or
The others are also possible such as USB to optical , HDMI splitters ...
But the above will give good sound and good price without the need of converters. Get a good cable.
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
my Philips TAB5109 Soundbar only features one AUX slot. I could not use the cables recommended by you that feature two connectors on one end of the cable. The only AUX cable I can use is one that features one connector on each of its ends. Do you think that connecting my laptop with my soundbar this way will bring the same results as using a cable that functions "USB to Optical"?
