Good Morning,
I am constantly getting a sad face on my computer, and it keeps shutting down in the middle of work sessions. I checked my system using the myHP app, and everything checked out. However, it keeps happening, and I now get this error "hpsaapplauncher.exe - application error". All my hardware checked out. Any help you can provide is appreciated with the following:
1. Sad face and computer shutdown
2. hpsaapplauncher.exe - application error
Thank you!

Hi @ShelleyLL,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issues you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion Laptop. The sad face and constant reboots along with the "hpsaapplauncher.exe - application error" message can be quite frustrating.
Here are some steps you can take to resolve these problems:
Update or Reinstall HP Support Assistant (HPSA):
- It's possible that the version of HPSA you have is causing conflicts. Uninstall the current version through the Apps and Features settings (not Control Panel), then reboot your laptop.
- After rebooting, download the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the HP website and install it(.
- Make sure to check for updates in HPSA after installation to ensure everything is current(.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise when the software isn’t aligned with the latest Windows updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to check for updates.
Run System Diagnostics: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- Since you mentioned that the MyHP app showed everything checked out, consider running a complete hardware diagnostic again. Sometimes, intermittent issues can be missed on initial scans. You can usually find this option in the HP Support Assistant under the "My Devices" tab.
Perform a Clean Boot:
- A clean boot can help you identify if background programs are causing conflicts. To do this:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, under the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services," then click "Disable all."
- Go to the Startup tab and click "Open Task Manager." Disable all startup items.
- Reboot your laptop to see if the issue persists.
Restore or Reset Windows:
- If none of the above solutions work, you might consider restoring your system to a point before these issues start or, as a last resort, performing a reset. You can do this by going to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery

I hope this helps.
