HP Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 11

I ordered an HP Pavilion earlier this week to replace a Dell laptop.  Both laptops will have the same Windows 11 home, the same size hard drive, and the processors are both Intel although different versions.  I really don’t have the time/capability to reinstall all the programs and files currently on the Dell onto my new HP laptop.  I’m not even sure I still have all the original installation disks for some of the programs.

Is it possible to copy/colon the Dell laptop hard drive and install it on my new HP Pavilion hard drive?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I did this this once, by accident, and it worked on windows 10.  I re-assembled an old Intel system and mistakenly used a drive from an even older AMD system..  It is unlikely to work on newer laptops with secure boot and windows 11.

When you get your laptop, use the serial number at the below site to see if you have cloud recovery.

If you do not have cloud recovery you may have problem restoring the HP if a problems arises.

If you try the copy and something goes wrong, you will need to have warranty service.  It may take weeks to get the system back.

Thanks very much for the advice and link.  Will certainly check out the cloud recovery when the laptop arrives.
