HP Elitebook 1040 G11
Microsoft Windows 11

The keys Ctrl, Alt and Shift is no longer working on my build in keyboard. I can attatch a external keyboard and that works just fine.

I've tried installing the latest drivers using HP Support Assistant and Windows 11 updates.

I've tried disconnecting the battery.

I've tried the keyboard test at boot (F2) and that can't register any of the keys either.

I've tried ressetting Windows

Any ideas or is my keyboard perhaps just dead?.

If the keys failed during the UEFI diagnostics then, yes, there is a hardware problem.
Go here and enter your serial number and see if there is a keyboard part number.

You might also look for a video that shows how to replace a keyboard. such as the G9 video.

Good Luck!!

After a recent Windows 11 update, none of my Ctrl, Alt, or Shift keys work. I'm experiencing the same issue as the questioner. I suspect it's an issue with my HP laptop update.

Possibly win11 switched to the "sticky key" function.  Try disabling sticky keys!

Disable Sticky Keys: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard and ensure Sticky Keys and other special key features (like Filter Keys and Toggle Keys) are turned off
