Hi @SnkDrvr80,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The error message "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)" typically indicates that the system is not detecting the device, which in your case is a USB mouse. Here are steps you can take to resolve this issue on your HP Laptop - 17-by3053cl:
1. Check Physical Connections:
- Reconnect the USB Mouse: Unplug the mouse and then plug it back into a different USB port on your laptop. Ensure the connection is firm.
- Try a Different USB Device: Connect another USB device (like a flash drive) to the same port to see if it is recognized. This helps determine if the issue is with the port or the mouse.
2. Update or Reinstall USB Drivers:
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
- Expand the USB Controllers Section:
- Look for any devices with a yellow triangle or exclamation mark.
- Update Drivers:
- Right-click on each USB controller and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
- Reinstall USB Controllers:
- If updating doesn’t work, right-click the problematic USB device, choose "Uninstall device," and then restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.
3. Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, missing or outdated Windows updates can cause hardware issues.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your laptop.
4. Power Management Settings:
- Disable USB Selective Suspend:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Click on "Change plan settings" next to your current power plan.
- Click on "Change advanced power settings."
- Expand the "USB settings" section and disable "USB selective suspend setting."
- This can prevent the USB port from powering down and failing to recognize devices.
5. BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Sometimes, USB ports can be disabled in the BIOS settings.
- Restart your laptop and press F10 (or another key, depending on your model) to enter the BIOS.
- Look for USB configuration settings and ensure all USB ports are enabled.
6. Test with Another Mouse:
- If possible, try using another USB mouse to see if the issue is with the mouse itself or the laptop’s USB ports.
7. Check for Hardware Issues:
- Loose Connections: If the mouse is not recognized after trying all USB ports, it could be either the mouse faulty or the PC itself.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
