HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fh0000 (9F2C1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have a new HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop which runs Windows 11 and is up to date on all software.  I am having trouble with the cursor going from the smallest size to large without me doing anything.  It's totally random when it does this, but was more frequent when I used the mouse pad.  I now use an external mouse and the frequency has dropped, but still does it.  Also, the last 2 times I started the Omnibook the mouse jumped to a larger size, but this is new.

I have googled this and explored all my settings and have not found anything to help.  I've deleted and installed the mouse driver with no change.  In the past I have been able to disable the mouse pad while typing with other laptops, but can't find that setting.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

@IndyHerb, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Cursor size!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the cursor size issue on your HP OmniBook Ultra Flip:

Check Your Mouse Settings

  1. Open Mouse Settings: Click on the Windows Start Button and go to Settings > Devices > Mouse.
  2. Adjust Mouse Properties: Click on Additional mouse options. In the Mouse Properties window, look through the settings and adjust any that might be related to cursor size.

Check Ease of Access Settings

  1. Open Ease of Access: Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Mouse.
  2. Cursor & Pointer Size: Here you can adjust the size and color of the pointer. Ensure that these settings are correct and as you desire.

Software Updates

Ensure that your Windows 11 and HP software are up-to-date. Sometimes bugs are fixed in the latest updates.

External Device Influence

Since you note the frequency of changes is related to using the mouse pad versus an external mouse, try updating or reinstalling the drivers for both devices through the Device Manager.

Reset Windows Settings

If none of the above settings resolve the issue, consider resetting your Windows settings to default or performing a system restore to a point before the problem started.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Zoey,

Thank you for your help and assistance.  I've tried all the mouse settings I could find or think of for this issue.  I also reviewed and checked everything you suggested.  This problem has been with me since day one.  It always seemed to present if I was around the mouse pad especially if not using an external mouse.  I think it was a combination of both hands hitting the touchpad at the same time in some sort of order.  Most recently it presented right at power up.  However, today it was no issue.

If you have any other ideas I would appreciate them.

Thanks for your help!

@IndyHerb, Thanks for the update — really appreciate you taking the time to try all the steps and share your observations.

It does sound like the touchpad might be unintentionally triggering accessibility shortcuts, especially if both hands are brushing the surface. One more thing to try: head to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > Advanced gestures and review the three- and four-finger gesture settings. Try disabling or customizing them to prevent unintended input.

Since this has been happening since day one, and if it continues even after tweaking settings, we’d also suggest checking for any firmware or BIOS updates via HP Support Assistant.

If our solution hit the spot, please click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an incredible day ahead!
