Hello HP Community,

I have an HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa1093dx and I’ve been facing repeated Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors with “DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (0x133)”.

Here are the details of my issue:

  • Laptop Model: HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa1093dx

  • Processor/GPU: Intel CPU + NVIDIA GPU

  • Current BIOS version: AMI F.20

  • Windows: Fresh, clean installation of Windows 11

  • Issue: Even after clean installation, I still get the DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD.

  • When it happens: Often when HDMI is connected, but sometimes randomly as well.

  • Tried so far:

    • Updated Windows and drivers

    • Ran HP hardware diagnostics (no issues detected)

    • Checked for malware using offline scan (no issues detected)

    • I've reset my laptop couple of times, and it still crashes (even though have I tried all the versions of Nvidia drivers one by one but nothing seems to be working)
    • Have latest BIOS

My Questions:

  1. Is there a BIOS update compatible with my exact model (15-fa1093dx) that might resolve this?

  2. Whenever I try to use my laptop with an external screen connected (through HDMI or C-type), it crashes randomly. But sometimes it works fine for  a day when i clean install GPU drivers but then after the next restart, it is still stuck in the same loop of DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION

  3. What further troubleshooting steps would you recommend to isolate whether this is hardware or driver related?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

Thank you,
Umar

Hi @umar_real,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the DPC Watchdog Violation (0x133) on the HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa1093dx!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Update Device Drivers:

  • Ensure that all device drivers, especially the Intel CPU and NVIDIA GPU drivers, are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.
  • Double-check if any drivers are conflicting and reinstall them if necessary.

Update the BIOS:

  • You mentioned having the AMI BIOS version F.20. Check for a BIOS update on the HP support website. BIOS updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues that might cause BSOD errors.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Run Windows Update to ensure your Windows 11 installation includes the latest security and feature updates.

Run HP Support Assistant:

  • Utilize the HP Support Assistant to scan for driver updates and troubleshoot hardware issues. This tool may help identify and resolve underlying issues that contribute to the BSOD error.

Verify Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure all internal connections such as RAM and SSD are secure. A loose connection can sometimes contribute to system errors.

Check for System Overheating:

  • Monitor the system temperatures while gaming or under heavy loads using utilities like the HP Command Center. Excessive heat can sometimes lead to BSOD.

Inspect SSD and Hard Drives:

  • Check the health of your SSD and any other drives using built-in diagnostic tools or third-party software. Poor disk performance or errors can trigger watchdog violations.

Run System File Checker:

  • Use the command sfc /scannow in Command Prompt to scan and repair corrupt system files that might be causing the error.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Navigate to Power Options in the Control Panel and disable the fast startup setting, which may help prevent the BSOD error.

I hope this helps.
