Hi,

I have a HP Probook 6360b, running windows 10.

I bought a DVB-T TV Tuner along with  the windows media player remote control.
I am a bit nostalgic and miss the days on early 2000s computing and want to get windows media player running.
I have installed media player, and it works nicely for dvd and photos but the live tv bit is missing as I just cant find drivers for the TV tuner card for windows 10.

The only way I got it working was to get my old windows hard drive and install it on there, but Id love it running on win10.

Can anybody help?

Hi:

The HP driver was the correct driver--at least for Vista x64.

Here is a partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file which shows driver support for that hardware ID:

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName% = DIBCOM,NTamd64

[DIBCOM.NTamd64]
%MOD3000.DeviceDesc% = MOD3000.Device,USB\VID_10B8&PID_0BC7
%MOD3000.DeviceDesc% = MOD3000.Device,USB\VID_1164&PID_0BC7
%MOD7000.DeviceDesc% = MOD7000.Device,USB\VID_1164&PID_1EDC ; C version + 2260 single
%MOD7000.DeviceDesc% = MOD7000.Device,USB\VID_1164&PID_1E7A ; B version + 2260 single
%MOD7000.DeviceDesc% = MOD7000.Device,USB\VID_1164&PID_1E8C ; B(C) version + 2260 dual

So, I'm not sure why it didn't install when you browsed to the driver sp36917 folder.

You can also install the free 7-zip file utility from the link below.

The 64 bit file is the first option listed.

7-Zip

After you install 7-Zip, download the HP file again.

Right click on it and select 7-Zip from the list of options on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the exe file into its driver folder.

Then you should be able to manually update the driver by browsing to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

I also found the driver on the Microsoft update catalog website (1st one listed):

Microsoft Update Catalog

Because they are cabinet files, you have to use 7-zip to get the cabinet file extracted into a driver folder from where you can also browse to the folder to manually update the driver.

I explored that file too and it is exactly the same one as the HP driver.

In conclusion, if the driver you have installed is the same one as the other two, unfortunately the TV tuner is not supported to run in W10 if it crashes.

Hi:

As far as I can tell, the latest drivers for that device were for Windows Vista.

Here is the link to that driver.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36917.exe

Maybe it has a chance of working on W10.

Try manually installing the driver from the device in the device manager if the auto install method doesn't work.

Hi Paul, thanks for the suggestion. I tried installing this, however device manager is still as pictured.

It did in fact say the files were already present when running the .exe so this .exe may be one I tried previously.

I ran the .exe, is there another way to install, you mention manually. In update drivers, I cant select an exe when I browse for drivers.

Thanks for any thoughts

Amit

You're very welcome, Amit.

To try manually installing the driver, go to the device manager.

Click on the TV tuner device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.

Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp36917.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

If not, please post the hardware ID for the TV tuner because maybe it needs a different driver.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:

How to Find Drivers for Unknown Devices in the Device Manager

Hi Paul, your advice has been very interesting.

I tried browsing to the driver folder as you suggested, and interestingly there was no folder called sp36917, but I did try for all of the other ones.

I then tried the website you suggested which was really interesting. The hardware ID is USB\VID_10B8&PID_0BC7&REV_0001&MI_00

I did a google search, and found something called ' TV_TUNER_YUAN_PDL300L'

I downloaded it and ran the EXE, and then the device was listed as a YUAN TV tuner in device manager. I opened windows media centre and went to the live tv option, and amazingly it had detected the device and was proceeding to ask about scanning for channels so I was quite pleased.

I said yes to scan, but this resulted in a blue screen crash.

I restarted and tried again but had the same error.

Now I dont see YUAN tv tuner in device manager,  and I dont see the device with that Hardware ID , so not sure whats happened. Oh dear!

I must correct myself, I have found the YUAN TV tuner , it had moved to sound video and games controllers, so it is there. Phew I was worried I'd somehow made it vanish from device explorer.

Now I can see it again I can see it has two Hardware IDs

USB\VID_10B8&PID_0BC7&REV_0001&MI_00

and

USB\VID_10B8&PID_0BC7&MI_00

Any insights are appreciated. I will search a bit more for these hardware IDs on google, that's been quite a revelation for me

Hi Paul,

I have followed these instructions and it looks as though this device wont work with windows 10.

That's  a shame, but I feel I have learned a lot from you in the process so thanks very much for that!

You're very welcome.

Sorry that you weren't able to get the TV tuner to work on W10.

Regards,

Paul
