I recently deleted some of the files from my system but those files are still appearing in the .exe manner and are not removable in the storage options of C drive.

Hi @Japneet1224,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've deleted files but they still appear as executable (.exe) files and cannot be removed through normal means in the storage options of your C drive, there are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, files may appear to be still present due to caching or temporary issues. Restarting your computer can sometimes resolve this.

Use Command Prompt: You can try using Command Prompt to navigate to the directory where the files are located and attempt to delete them using command-line commands.

  • Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges. You can do this by searching for "Command Prompt" in the Start menu, right-clicking on it, and selecting "Run as administrator".
  • Navigate to the directory containing the problematic files using the cd command.
  • Once in the correct directory, you can try using the del command to delete the files. For example:

del filename.exe

Replace filename.exe with the name of the file you want to delete.

Use Safe Mode: Boot your computer into Safe Mode and try to delete the files from there. Safe Mode loads only the essential drivers and services, which may help in removing stubborn files.

Check for Malware: Sometimes, malware can cause files to appear in unusual ways or prevent them from being deleted. Run a thorough antivirus scan on your system to ensure it's clean from any malicious software.

Check File Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to delete the files. Right-click on the file, select "Properties", and navigate to the "Security" tab to check permissions.

System Restore: If none of the above methods work, you can consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state before the files became an issue. This can sometimes resolve stubborn file deletion problems.

Always exercise caution when deleting files, especially if you're using command-line tools, as deleting system files or files belonging to other programs can potentially cause issues with your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
