Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I am having trouble running Oblivion remastered, and "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument" pops up when I try to run it. Now my problem obviously has to do with DirectX 12, but I am not sure what. I've looked up my GPU, and it says it's compatible with it. I've also updated it so it's all current. I've run dxdiag and it says I have DirectX 12, but on the next page, it says DirectX 12 Ultimate is disabled? I just don't know what's wrong. If anyone can help, that would be amazing!

@Ely53, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with this issue, but let's try to troubleshoot it together. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the DirectX 12 issue on your HP Notebook - 15-da0053wm:
Check Feature Level Support

  • Run dxdiag, go to Display tab.
  • Look for Feature Levels.
  • If you don't see 12_1 or higher, then DX12 Ultimate won't work.

Remove DX12 Launch Flag

  • If you added -dx12 or -d3d12 to the game shortcut or launcher, remove it.
  • Some modded versions of games force DX12 — check the mod instructions.

Force DX11 or DX9 Mode

  • Try launching the game with -dx11 or -dx9 flag instead (if supported).

Use a Compatibility Layer

  • Some ENBs or mods use ReShade or DXVK for better visuals. These can sometimes be configured to fall back to DX11 or Vulkan.

Upgrade GPU (if needed)

  • Your system likely has an entry-level integrated GPU that does not fully support DX12 Ultimate, so full compatibility with modern DX12-only games/mods is unlikely.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
