Envy laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The accelerometer or gyroscope seems to be busted on my laptop. It is currently locked so it can only be interacted with via the touchscreen, even when in a laptop orientation. This disables the keyboard, track pad, and some USB functionality from my tests (e.g., my USB mouse). I can't realistically expect to carry around a keyboard with me everywhere I go either, so this has seriously reduced the work I need to do.

I have followed the advice on other similar prompts (go to settings and turn autorotate off, which I had already done; go to the Registry Editor to confirm these changes; flip it around to return it to its correct orientation, which has seldom worked; etc.), and at this point, I just want to turn the accelerometer to a set value that always keeps it in the laptop orientation.

I need to know this information on my end. I do not want a replacement accelerometer, I just want this laptop fixed without me needing to ship it. If the laptop is bricked without the proper accelerometer or without instructions on how to disable it, I just won't buy HP again due to this (and other issues I have been able to troubleshoot on my own regarding their bloatware).

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

@guacamolen

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. The last thing I can suggest trying to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Once you successfully restore computer back to the default factory state, try the steps again to check the functionality.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you @Echo_Lake for your reply, but I don't see how doing a factory reset of my software would fix my hardware issue.

Please let me know how to deactivate the accelerometer/gyroscope so I can have my laptop be functional again as a laptop, since if I wanted to buy a tablet, I would have done so for less money.

Thank you for posting back.

If it's a hardware related issue, then your computer needs to be serviced. Factory reset will fix only software related with the PC.

I would request you to reach out to our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to check the available service options in order to diagnose the computer physically.  HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/
