I have been having issues with my touchpad still working even after my external mouse is plugged in.  Every time I turned on my computer I would have to go to the mouse properties, clear the box that says disable touchpad when the mouse is plugged in, click it and hit apply.  Recently though, my laptop had a couple of updates.  I don't know if that has anything to do with why I am no longer able to disable my touchpad.  The mouse properties dialogue box no longer always me to disable my touchpad.  Under setting, touchpad, there is no option to disable my touchpad.  When I go to device manager to try and disable it there, the touchpad isn't even listed.  I just want my touchpad to be permanently disabled.  I NEVER use it.  I can't stand it.  I really wish there was a version of laptops that didn't have touchpads!  TIA

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

To disable the Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad feature, open the TouchPad tab in Mouse Properties.

  1. Click Start , and then type mouse in the search field.

  2. Click Change your mouse settings.

  3. Click Additional mouse options.

    Clicking on Additional mouse options

  4. In Mouse Properties, click the TouchPad tab.

NOTE: Some HP notebooks have an HP Control Zone tab. If your notebook has this tab, open it and click HP Control Zone Disable. If the properties window does not have a TouchPad option, then the TouchPad functionality is not available.

  5. Click Disable.

    Clicking on Disable

  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
