I’ve been trying to download Apps to my Notebook but all of them require a smart phone or tablet. I have neither. Is there any way to install apps on a notebook without the need for any other device, please? Thanks.

No, applications for smartphones and tablets are  not written (created) to run on Windows.

I am curious why you would want to download applications meant for a phone or tablet onto a PC.

That is like trying to toast bread in a blender.

Different Animal.

The question, of course, if rhetorical - you need not answer.  Smiling.

What you can do:

The Microsoft Windows Store provides Windows applications for your Windows based computer.

If your intent is to use Smartphone apps on your PC instead of Windows apps, then @Dragon-Fur makes some very good points.

However, if your intent is to experiment with smartphone apps, there are emulators for Android that you can download and install on your PC.  But these are a lot of work and you need to know specifically what you are doing.

Thanks Dragon Fur. I loved the toast in a blender image - hilarious as well as instructive. I suspected they were different ecologies. Though I could swear I tried to download Skype from the microsoft windows store and it required a smart device, but maybe not, I'll have another look.

It started with my sister, who is even less tech savvy than me, trying to send me something from a WhatsApp group. I couldn't open it but found a URL that purported to let me download WhatsApp to my laptop. It was only after I'd jumped through all the hoops that it demanded I point a Smart device at my screen.

So I thought it's time I joined the 21st century and was hoping there was some software that created the android ecology on a pc, into which I could drop any useful Apps. Apparently not, so back to square one and I'll start with your advice and look to see what the Microsoft store has to offer. Thanks again, very helpful.

You are welcome, Joseph.

Ooh, something interesting is afoot:

I realize the connection between what you are actually doing and the subject of the following article are quite different - there is some good information in the article that might even prove helpful in a long-winded-kind-of-related-'round-about way.

HP Community presents:  Home Office Setup

Selected article includes help for a variety of issues, including setting up the home office workspace, cleaning, using Zoom and related applications.  There is also a section to address Webcam issues (camera drama).

Are you working from home too? Let’s figure it out together.
