HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e102sa Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

So i decided on a project at home to resurect an old laptop, it ran windows 10 but that made it so painfully slow that i gave up using it at all - then because windows 10 support is coming to an end i guessed why not try windows 8.1 as that is also not supported ... but id try 8.1 as that is what the machine originally shipped with.

So i have installed 8.1 today and applied all the windows updates available for my system, and i notice in device manager there are about four or five system components that are not recognised - the touch screen is not working for example - and the bluetooth controller neither [although i do have wifi access and use a mouse on a bluetooth dongle]

Im hoping that there may still be some way to download the driver packs for this notebook, as i might still find a use for it, even if that use is to just keep it in the kitchen to play MP3s from... can anyone help me with a driver download pack? its an old laptop by the way bought in 2013... but its in great condition to be fair - if i hadnt upgraded it to windows ten i might still have used it a lot more...

HP has retired support for your notebook since it is more than 10 years old which is why you can't find any drivers for it.

This reputable 3rd party website has the drivers you need for your notebook:

is there a driver for the touchscreen? I note that there is still one 'unknown device' with a yellow triangle next to it - and I also note that the touchscreen is not working - so perhaps that's the missing driver?

...and I notice that the wifi isn't working despite trying a number of drivers on the website / and widnows update - which provides some legacy system updates

That is really helpful - thank you

You're very welcome.

Please post the hardware ID for the unknown device.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:

How to Find Drivers for Unknown Devices in the Device Manager

I don't see any drivers on that site for the touchscreen.

If the Wi-Fi adapter needs a driver there will be a device listed in the device manager labeled as a Network Controller.

If you see such a device, post the hardware ID for that as well.

hey Paul - Thank you for posting the link to find device ID

I was able to find out the following:

ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_6007

It sounds like its for a 3D Drive guard that stops accidental damage to Hard Drives if they are moved suddenly...

So that is that driver taken care of - hmmm I still have no wifi though...

There are no network controllers i can see listed in the Device Manager - i can see a Network Adapter - there are four devices listed under the Network Adapter header, these all seem to have drivers associated with them.

I have the following devices:

    802.11n Wireless LAN Card

    Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)

    Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

    Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

When trying to connect to WiFi i get the following information:

'Connection is limited'

'No Internet'

and sometimes also 'unknown connection'

You're very welcome.

You need this driver for the ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_6007 device which is not related to the touchscreen not working.

This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78105.exe

Please post the hardware ID for the 802.11n Wireless LAN Card because since it is present in the device manager, it should be working, so it is one of two things...

The driver needs to be updated or you have the Wi-Fi turned off in airplane mode.

Normally the F12 key enables/disables airplane mode.

Hi:

These are the latest W8.1 drivers HP has for the Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter:

MediaTek (Ralink) Wireless LAN (WLAN) Adapter

5.0.50.0

sp69543.exe

Mediatek (Ralink) Bluetooth Software Driver

11.0.756.0

sp69545.exe

Hopefully, updating the drivers to their latest versions will get the Wi-Fi to work.

After updating the Bluetooth Drivers and the RaLink Drivers no improvement unfortunately - the Network Widget is still reporting the WiFi Connection as 'Limited' with no internet connectivity

In Windows 8.1 Going to Windows Network Diagnostics shows

Ipv4 Connectivity: No Internet Access and

IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access

I've rebooted the router [all other wi-fi devices connecting fine] just this notebook doesn't seem to connect.

Running the Troubleshooter returns two errors:

* Problem with wireless adapter or access point

* "Wi-Fi" doesn't have a valid IP Configuration
