Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Notebook blue screens with the stopcode: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, this is only happening when saving the game in Football Manager 2019. This has been going on since purchased only a month ago. I have updated windows, un-installed and re-installed all graphics drivers, made sure graphics drivers are up to date, changed which software uses the intel graphics card and which ones use nvidia graphics card. I'm lost for another alternative fix.

@CJF96,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you.

I understand you are getting driver power state failure on your PC.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any software of hardware changes on your PC?

Try the steps recommended below and let me know if this helps.

This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state

Right click the Computer and select Properties. Click Device Manager to find whether there are yellow exclamation marks beside the hardware names.

Step 2: Uninstall the Drivers
Right click the hardware with problematic drivers and select Uninstall.
(Note: If it is the recently installed programs that cause the blue screen, you also need to uninstall the programs in this way.)

I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest here is to update the Bios on your computer from  HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

System restore can be used to solve system issues like DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error. It allows Windows users to roll back the PC's state to that of a previous point in time.
If you have ever created system restore points before the error, now you can roll the system back to a normal state with the steps below:
Step 1: Right click the Computer and select Property.
Step 2: Select System Protection, and then choose System Restore…in the opening dialog.
Step 3: Click Next and choose the desired system restore point form the table.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

@Jeet_singh,

Thanks for your post but unfortunately that has not solved the issue. I have downloaded and installed software programs but nothing out of the ordinary or that have caused this problem before.

There are no yellow exclamation marks beside the hardware names. No windows updates are available and there are no updates on the HP Support Assistant. The only restore point was 28/12/18 before the last windows update, however, this issue has been persistent since I bought the laptop approximately a month ago.

@CJF96,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have tried the steps suggested and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue.

In this scenario, I would suggest the next option would be to perform a system reset on the PC, for more details, please follow this link: HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)

If this does not help then the next step would be to perform a recovery using the recovery media, for more details on how to obtain the recovery media, please click here.

I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
