Looks like the hard drive on my daughter's G61has failed or windows is corrupted. The original recovery disks have long since gone astray.
i thought I would be able to download these from the HP support site but they no longer seem to have any software for the G61. I understand that they may not wish to support later versions of Windows but I would have thought that the drivers and possibly recovery software for the orginal operating system, Windows 7, would still be available.
Am I looking in the wrong place perhaps? This is an old notebook I know, 2010, but otherwise perfectly useable.
Regards
Don.

Hi:
What is the product number of the notebook?
The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number, or use this guide for how to find it.

You're very welcome, Don.
I didn't know that you needed the OS too.
I cannot find a place that sells recovery disks for that model anymore.
Best2Serve is where you would get them in the UK, but when I enter that product number, I get gibberish.

If you can still read the 25 characters of the W7 product key on the notebook's case, see if this works...
This site claims to have genuine, unadulterated W7 ISO files for download...

Click on the link labeled Windows ISO Downloader.exe
You can use either the:
Win 7 Home SP1 (Retail version, but the OEM key on your PC's case should work with it)
Win 7 Home SP1 COEM (This version would be for what HP would have used--System Builder)
Then you can use a free utility such as Rufus to transfer the file to a USB flash drive, or burn the ISO file to a DVD using your DVD burning program's Burn ISO file option.

Thanks again. We have the original disks somewhere as we rarely throw anything away. They may turn up but in the mean time I have enough to start with. I'm trying to decipher the faded product code but not too optimistic.
Cheers
