HP 15-dw0037wm Notebook

Hello. I am trying to help a friend with his laptop restoration. I have downloaded a clean Win10 iso and when I go to install there are no visible drivers. I have went to the HP page and downloaded their storage drives and when I go to install the F6 folder, it loads and looks like it’s working for a bit and then pop up”cannot complete installation. Contact vendor for updated file” or something along those lines. Am I downloading the correct software? If so is there any work around to get this to work.

ps. This pc will not boot as normal and has to boot to the ISO from a flash drive.

I have installed Windows on blank, cleaned, secure erased hard drives many times and never had a problem.

You can try to clean and format the drive within the W10 installation screen where W10 can't find the drive, and if Diskpart does not see the disk you can probably assume the drive is completely dead and, in that event, your friend may want to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a M.2 2280 NVMe SSD which uses a different drive controller.

  • 1. From inside Windows Setup, press Shift+F10 to open a command prompt window.
  • 2. Type diskpart and enter.
  • 3..Type list disk . (look for your disk number, check the size of the disk)
  • 4. Type select disk <disk number>. example: select disk0 (select the disk you want to format)
  • 5. Type clean.
  • 6. Type convert gpt.
  • 7. Close the command prompt window.

Hi:

I'm looking at the product specs for the notebook and W10 should not be needing any drivers to find the hard drive on PC's with the Intel 8th generation core processors.

You may want to consider using the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with the PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter the notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

The PC's product number is:  6FV98UA#ABA

Hello and thank you for getting back to me. I tried your suggestion and when booting up the following error is displayed.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to troubleshoot any errors with the cloud recovery media.

I guess it's back to a clean install, and since Windows can't find the drive and that shouldn't be, I don't know what you can do about that either.

As a last resort, I have zipped up and attached the storage controller drivers used for PC's with the Intel 8th generation core processors, below.  The driver version is 17.11.3.1010      11/25/2022

Copy the files from the unzipped driver folder to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your W10 installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the W10 installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Click Next and if those are the right drivers W10 should find the drive and install.

This is what I am prompted with. What would I need to select? F6?

HP Recommended

The option isn’t available for some reason hence all of this work around.

HP Recommended

Yes, the F6 folder.

It’s still popping up errors when I try to install that file.
