Computer was very slow starting up. I checked for updates and it said there was some. I attempted to get them downloaded and installed then it asked for a restart. I did the restart and I seem to be in a loop with the same message "Getting Windows ready, Don't turn off computer" for the last 1/2 hour or so.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP 15-g019wm Notebook and it seems to be stuck while performing the Windows updates. The laptop is facing a slow performance and then you initiated the updates. Upon restarting, the laptop is stuck on the message saying "Getting Windows ready, Don't turn off computer". I'll be glad to assist you with this case.
I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- While holding down the Alt key on the keyboard, press the F4 key to close the application.
- Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys to open Task Manager. Review the list of applications under Processes and look for applications that have stopped responding. Make a note of the names of those applications or programs.
-
Select an application that is not responding, and then click End Task.
-
A Microsoft Windows error message might appear: Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows might check to see if there is a solution for the problem or prompt you to close the program. Or, if you see If you can’t see the taskbar and desktop icons, press Windows key and type Explorer….”
If you can’t see the taskbar and desktop icons, press the Windows key, type Explorer in the field, and click OK to restart File Explorer.
-
Continue clicking End Task for applications that are not responding until all unresponsive applications are removed from the list.
-
Click a window outside Task Manager.
If the laptop does not respond to the above actions then let us manually power off the laptop by pressing and holding the power button on it until it powers off completely.
Now, you may power on your HP laptop and if the laptop boots successfully to Windows then run the Windows 10 update troubleshooter.
If the laptop does not boot successfully to Windows, then let us perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data. Please perform the steps mentioned under "Performing a push-button reset through Windows Recovery Environment".
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂
