I had posted this on the Enterprise board, and they told me to come here.
I recently purchased a refurbished EliteBook 8570w, and not being a fan of Windows 10, took out that hard drive, put a mSATA in it, and installed Linux Mint. The machine had come with a SSD in the upgrade bay, but I replaced that with the CD/DVD SuperMulti drive.
This is a powerhouse machine, and I replaced the keyboard with the backlit one, and have memory up to 24GB now (last chip is on the way, and a 2nd hard drive (SSD will be the next step).
There are only 2 problems to surmount, and I will be set.
1. The EFI boot sequence with HP requires me to step down a few levels to boot up. I would like to have something like a direct boot into Linux. Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Or, is there a BIOS editor available that would let me 'tune' the BIOS to my needs? I have found a myriad of suggestions on EFI/UEFI booting on boht HP and LInux forums, but would like to have a conclusive solution.
2. The optical drive still is not recognized, and any suggestions will be appreciated. I definitely want this drive working.
I have scanned numerous posts about Linux Mint on HPs, and there are a myriad of suggestions. Still trying to find the best and final one.
Any help will be truly appreciated.

HP EliteBook Folio 9470m cannot boot directly into Linux Mint 18.2 Sylvia
Here is my solution. You will have to tweak these settings in the BIOS.
BIOS Information:
BIOS vers. F.70 (68IBD 4/12/2018)
Settings:
System Configuration→Boot Options
Customized Boot (Checked)
Secure Boot Configuration (NOT checked)
Clear SecureBoot Keys (Checked)
Boot Mode:
UEFI native without CSM (compatibility support mode)
UEFI Boot Order
**FIRST**
Customized Boot
Define Custom Boot Option
**SELECT**
Add – be sure to clear current path
Custom boot path
\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi
please note the path is case-sensitive
Be sure to SAVE your settings when you exit from the BIOS.
I hope you found this helpful 🙂

Where can I find this BIOS version? BIOS vers. F.70 (68IBD 4/12/2018)
I looked at the HP support sites, but can't find it.
The reply I got from you mentioned an HP EliteBook Folio 9470m, and I have an EliteBook 8570w.
Will this make a difference?

You might want to use "Windows to Go".
