Microsoft Windows 11

Windows Update keeps updating HP Keyboard drivers and re-enabling the HotKeyServiceUWP Service which leads to an empty Windows dialog to get generated every time I adjust the brightness on my laptop. It's a persistent issue with my HP laptop that keeps popping up every time theres a HP related driver update. From what I can see the suggestion is always to disable the HotKeyServiceUWP but HP themselves need to issue an update that omits that service altogether!

@zondajag, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It appears that the repeated update of HP Keyboard drivers through Windows Update is causing the HotKeyServiceUWP service to re-enable, which leads to an empty Windows dialog being introduced each time you adjust the brightness on your HP laptop. This is a known issue and common suggestion is to disable the HotKeyServiceUWP service manually.

Open Services:

  • Press Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type services.msc and press Enter.

Find HotKeyServiceUWP in the list:

  • Scroll down to locate HotKeyServiceUWP.

Disable the Service:

  • Right-click on HotKeyServiceUWP and select Properties.
  • In the Properties window, change the Startup type to Disabled.
  • Click OK to apply the changes.

Preventing Windows Update from Re-installing the Driver

Uninstall the faulty driver:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Find the HP Keyboard driver under the relevant category (e.g., Keyboards).
  • Right-click on the device and select Uninstall device.

@Garp_senchau This is what I already do every time. HP needs to remove the *UWP service from their Windows Update packages for Windows 11 and Windows 10 so this doesn't keep happening.

The suggested solution is what I am already doing and isn't a long-term solution. HP need to stop bundling the UWP service with their updates for Windows 10/11 as a proper solution.

P.S: Stop marking this message as spam and getting it removed!

Update: My previous response to the first suggested resolution is back now. Hopefully this will get some actual investigation and resolution.

Is there a trackable ticket that the public can watch and see the stages of the escalated investigation?
