Microsoft Windows 11

I clicked on device decryption on my HP laptop by mistake. I turned on device encryption again, but it is in progress for a long time. What to do?

Hi @Akul3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you accidentally initiated device decryption on your HP laptop and then re-enabled device encryption, but it's taking a long time, here are some steps you can take.

Be Patient:

  • Encryption and decryption processes can take a significant amount of time, especially if you have a large amount of data on your device. Give it some time to complete the process.

Check Progress:

  • Look for any progress indicators or notifications that show the status of the encryption or decryption process. This information may be available in the encryption settings or in a separate utility provided by HP.

Power Source:

  • Ensure that your laptop is connected to a stable power source. Some encryption processes may pause or slow down if the device is running on battery power.

Restart the Laptop:

  • Try restarting your laptop. Sometimes, a simple reboot can help in progressing or completing encryption/decryption processes.

Check for Errors:

  • Look for any error messages or warnings related to the encryption process. Check the event logs or encryption logs for more details.

Backup Important Data:

  • While encryption or decryption is in progress, it's a good idea to ensure that you have a backup of your important data. This is a precautionary measure in case anything goes wrong during the process.

Remember that interrupting the encryption or decryption process abruptly can lead to data loss or corruption.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
