Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The control panel for my Synaptics touchpad has vanished after HP Support Assistant found and installed a new driver for it. The driver is supposed to be compatible with Windows build 1903, but now i can't configure touchpad settings anymore. Which is a bummer because I usually have the direction for vertical scrolling set to reversed in the controll panel. After installing this driver, it reset this setting. It won't let me install an older version of the driver, and I've tried installing the new driver fresh. Does anyone else have this problem?

So i feel kinda stupid, but the control panel has moved from the mouse settings to a separate app. If you open up the start menu, and type synaptics, it'll bring up the Synaptics control panel..... Thanks anyway 🙂

Hi @MrBARMANIA

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try re-installing the touchpad driver -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".
2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".
3) Right click TouchPad and then click on uninstall and restart the computer.

Also, update the computer using these steps -

Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter.

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply Amita,

I've allready gone through the standard steps of reinstalling drivers. So I've installed the latest drivers freshly from the HP Support Assistant and from the HP support site. Also from Windows Update, and I've tried the Synaptics App from the Microsoft Store. None of these will bring back the Synaptics control panel tab in the mouse settings. I'm almost at the point of reinstalling Windows, although I doubt that this will solve the issue....
