Very sad thing i got Chi Mei - CMN15E9 display panel 😕

The worst thing of all is that I bought this laptop exclusively for vector design.

I just want to return this laptop since colors are AWFUL, panel literally has tons of washed colors on side and white color doesn't exist.  (plenty of bleeding).

Any ideas if there is any chance? I am from EU but I don't mind returning it.

I had enough problems with this laptop and some tech guy fixed it for me (search for driver issues thread on this forum). But panel is just too much.

Thanks a lot for info guys

Yeah, Chi mei (Innolux) CMN15E9 is indeed a sad story. BestBuy demo unit ( with BOE) looks way better, at least in terms of white representation. Very scepctical Geek Squad staff, after initially questioning my judgment (they said impossible... can't be any difference) was speechless when I put 2 laptops together. Dead silence.

BOE display, although visibly better, whiter and brighter, has also been criticized here for below average parameters

Very unfortunate...:smileysad:

Do You have any information what panel should I order to replace this one, from ebay or some worldwide shipping website?

Thanks a lot...You've just proved my intentions. The display is indeed below any standard...Even my Fujitsu from 2k12 looks better.

Much obliged :generic:

Couldn't find Chi Mei (Innolux) info...

Don't rush. Finding a replacement can be very tricky. Parameters, mounting, connectors have to be identical (or better - brigher). Stick rather to hw used by OEMs before you go for differnt maker/model.

This is a touch screen, digitizer has to work... lots of things to check.

Original parts https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=5335B36792844BB9A046B25BA62121B2&SearchIn=P...

These panels are also used on other touch screen models (listed there) - US model !

I did see replacements online, use Google replacement screen for your laprop model no. only,

but they don't say what make/model they offer. https://www.laptopscreen.com

Once you know 100% screen maker/model you can try Ebay.

Contact them by email, ask for all specifics before you buy. Give yourself time, you never know if replacement would be much better. Make sure everything is 100% before (!!!) you pull the gun. Always do your DD, don't rely on my posts here... and report your findings or results .

IMO, use color management > calibration. Dial down RED and GREEN. About less then 1 inch and 1/3 of that respectively, in my case gives improved white albeit less brightness. Tried color temp in Radeon Panel, cold (~8000) but did not get (or like) the same outcome. It's tricky, as panels do come yellow what affects all colors (you loose blue which is often defficient).

Well, that is my take on the subject... again, do not rush. If I'm wrong anywhere correct me.

PS. from what I've seen so far HP screen prices are quite close to other outlets. Touchpanels are not cheap. Approx. 2-3x regular panels ($250-300 US). Is it worth it? I think calibrate your screen properly. Try few times to get good color balance.

the bios needs to support the screen also or you get odd issues, like brightness control not working properly.

I noticed that hp partsurfer doesnt even list the correct ram that was in mine. it lists pc4-17000 2133 ram, yet originally mine had pc4-19200 ram.

Same laptop same issue.  Can't install BIOS update.  After further investigations I noticed that the link HP provides tries to install an insyde BIOS.  My laptop came with an AMI BIOS.  Hopefully we can get the BIOS update thing sorted out, otherwise i'd have to return.  Contacted HP support last night and they tried to make me pay for advanced tech support.  Obviously, I didn't do that becuase I know that they wouldn't be able to do anything since the update isn't correct.

Absolutely correct Nickhammond.

+ a bit too early for screen replacement (!?)

radeon panel... a little too basic in terms of adjustments, Win10 screen control (like most new "Settings") is just annoyingly primitive > huge step backwards

Thank God for Synaptics clickpad, Windows is just terrible, far behind...

BIOS, divers > HP seems a bit lost here,

some say that reimaging the drive resolved video driver issues (how could that be...?), have to take it at face value (corrupted Win10 installation?)

parts discrepancy (like memory, specs, +incomplete - no SSD upgrade options, MB missing) > unacceptable

Question to all participating:

which version of display driver you're using and why? pros and cons for all versions please.

original 655.0 shows heavy pixelation on YT from time to time (often) + banding,

655.2 from HP site is the same... no improvement,

the only working properly (but not always, yet) is version from MS via driver update - 655.1, on both FW F11 and F13.

655.1 is the only one capable of showing clean gradient with no banding (smooth gradation).

Monitor tests are here:  https://www.eizo.be/all-monitors/accessories/software/monitor-test/

white (all) gradient test shows no banding, other versions display heavy banding like low bit setting (~16 bit or lower)

stability...? all are flakey on preinstalled Win10, both Chrome and Edge (YT playback)

Goto the windows update catalog from microsoft. Search for Vega 8. There are 3 more drivers there 6 total to play with. Windows crys when you try to install them saying they don't match your hardware but they do install. I'm guessing acer and lenovo oem drivers.
