Windows 8 hp laptop

My daughter closed it during an updated now its throwing up a Error C0000034 code. 

I don't remember my password and don't have a password recovery disk set up. 

I've run a start up test on it and it passed. 

I need it fixed ASAP. Even if that means losing all my files.
