HP 15-cs1022ur laptop. The laptop originally has an M.2 drive but includes a slot for an SSD and its connector. I bought a Samsung 870 EVO SSD and a cable, connected it, but the laptop behaves as follows: upon turning on, the screen stays off, Caps Lock blinks 5 times slowly, then 4 times quickly (motherboard error). After shutting down, disassembling, removing the battery (which also powers the CMOS battery), reconnecting power, and turning it on, a CMOS 502 error appears (checksum mismatch). The laptop reboots automatically, resets the checksums, and works fine. The SSD is detected, as if nothing happened. However, after shutting down or restarting, the screen stays off again with the Caps Lock blinking. Disconnecting the SSD resolves the issue. P.S. The SSD and cable are not faulty, as everything works after checksum reset. Please help!

You're very welcome.
If you are using the Samsung drive for storage, it should not matter if the boot drive is NVMe.
I edited my post above and included several more discussions.
I don't know why but you are not alone.
I also agree 100% with Resistencia's comments.
I see no point in adding a 2.5" drive which adds heat and drains the battery faster when you can just install a larger capacity NVMe SSD unless you are adamant about using a 2.5" drive for storage.

Hi @MikKuZ
What is the part number of the cable, buy the original one for this laptop ?
Hard drive brackets are available using spare part number L19469-001.
The hard drive cable is available using spare part number L23889-001

Enter the BIOS and load the BIOS defaults, I think it is F9 or F5 key, the led sequence indicating shows an error in the BIOS

Yes, that fixes the problem, but only temporarily. Since I don’t have a CR2032 battery (the main battery also powers the CMOS), the main battery is currently removed. When the Caps Lock blinks after a reboot, I simply disconnect the power and reconnect it. The laptop then complains about the checksum mismatch, reboots itself, and works fine—until the next shutdown or restart, or until I disconnect the SSD.

when you remove the battery the BIOS returns to its default values, so you should not edit the BIOS again. check if you have updates for the BIOS.

it can be many factors, the cable is damaged, the disk is defective, some pin is bent and has not seen, in short many reasons, I have no more ideas what to do, I do not think there is nothing else to do but to verify the quality of the cable, the disk and that it does not bend any pin.
