According to the Software and Drivers update utility, there is a new F.43 Bios-System Firmware version for my laptop. It dates from March 2025. When I try to install it, I get the message that this firmware is not for my laptop, and it will not install. I copied the firmware update to my harddisk, and the file names start with 08820, 08822, and 08829.

If I'm not mistaken the firmware file names for my laptop should start with 0875c, but then why do I see this upgrade listed for my laptop?

@grunnvms, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a BIOS update!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears that you are trying to install a BIOS update that might not be compatible with your HP Envy 17, given the different board identification. The BIOS update file names usually correspond to the specific System Board ID of the laptop, and installing a BIOS update intended for a different board ID can cause compatibility issues. Here are some steps you can take:

Verify Compatibility: Ensure the BIOS update you are attempting to install is indeed meant for your specific board ID, which in this case seems to be "875c". BIOS files starting with different numbers (08820, 08822, 08829) might suggest that they are intended for other models or systems.

Correct BIOS File: Visit the HP Support website and enter your specific HP laptop model. Make sure to download the BIOS file that corresponds with your System Board ID (which you mention might start with 087).

Model Specificity: Double-check the model number and SKU specifics for your HP Envy 17 to ensure all components of your laptop model are accounted for.

Installation Method: Follow the recommended procedure for installing the BIOS update:

  • If available, use the HP Support Assistant to perform the update.
  • Ensure the laptop is connected to reliable AC power (do not perform BIOS updates on battery power).
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software and other security utilities that might interfere with the BIOS update process.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I had the HP website check my laptop, and it came up with type number 17t-cg000 CTO, which is correct. Then I had the HP website check for all applicable drivers etc, and it came up with this F.43 bios. It also showed the previous F.30 bios, and I have that one installed.

So, basically it is the HP website that says this F.43 bios is for my laptop, but it seems that is wrong. Perhaps someone at HP made an error in listing this F.43 bios as applicable to my laptop?

I noticed that this F.43 bios is 23 MB in size, while the previous F.30 bios is just 10.5 MB in size.
