Hi.My laptop's graphics card performance drops suddenly while playing games. Even though the temperatures are normal and the fan speed is at maximum. When I look at the values, the wattage of the graphics card drops from 80w to 30w.This reduces the fps by more than half. This is really annoying.I'm waiting for a solution about this, please help.

Hi @Serdo47,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

FPS drops in gaming laptops can be frustrating, especially when temperatures and fan speeds appear normal. The issue with the wattage drop from 80W to 30W suggests a potential power delivery or throttling problem. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the NVIDIA website or use the GeForce Experience app to update them.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure your laptop is set to "High Performance" mode in the Windows power settings.
  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select "High Performance."

Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:

  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings and set the Power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance."

Update BIOS and Firmware:

  • Check for any BIOS or firmware updates from HP’s support website. These updates can sometimes resolve power management issues.

Thermal Throttling:

  • Even if the temperatures seem normal, thermal throttling can occur. Consider using a cooling pad to further reduce temperatures.

Check Background Processes:

  • Close unnecessary background applications that might be consuming resources.
  • Use Task Manager to identify any high CPU or disk usage that could be affecting performance.

Adjust In-Game Settings:

  • Lower the in-game graphics settings to see if the FPS stabilizes.
  • Disable any in-game overlays (such as Discord or GeForce Experience overlays) that might be affecting performance.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan to ensure there are no malware or viruses affecting your system's performance.

Battery and Power Adapter:

  • Ensure you are using the original power adapter that came with the laptop. Third-party adapters might not provide sufficient power.
  • Check if the power adapter is functioning correctly and providing a stable power supply.

Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can include important performance and stability fixes.

By following these steps, you can diagnose and potentially resolve the FPS drops in your gaming laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the answer. Most of what you write has already been done.In order to help;It usually happens more often if the laptop has been on for a while (for example 3-4 hours) rather than when I just turned it on.or even like this: While playing Hellblade 2, it always dropped to 30 watts after 1.5 hours and it was fixed when I started the laptop again.Sometimes it gets better when i unplug the charging cable and plug it in, but after a while it drops again. Please write a specific answer to my problem, not the saved answers.Thank You..
