I just had a popup that said it was from HP about registries. It said to click to resolve. i don't usually click on those but I did. It went to a site that was something like Iola (?) that had a place to put in credit card info. I was about to immediately close it but before I could, my Norton popped up and shut it down and did a scan. Everything is OK but just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Does HP need to know about it?

Hi @bbpugs

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you encountered a scam popup pretending to be from HP.

These types of fake notifications often aim to trick users into providing personal or financial information.

Thankfully, Norton intervened and protected your system—great move on your part for not proceeding further!

What You Can Do Next

Run Additional Security Scans:

  • Even though Norton scanned your system, it’s a good idea to run another scan using tools like Malwarebytes or Windows Defender to ensure no residual threats remain.

Be Cautious with Popups:

  • Always verify the source of any popup before clicking. Legitimate HP notifications typically come through the HP Support Assistant or official HP software.

Block Suspicious Websites:

  • Use your browser settings or security software to block the website you were redirected to. This prevents accidental visits in the future.

Educate Others:

  • Share your experience with friends or family to raise awareness about such scams.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
