My fan is running a lot and not stopping once it starts.  I don't seem to have the thermol setting option in Command Center and I can't find Coolsense? Does anyone have any suggestions? Have you had issues after Microsofts recent windows 11 updates? Thanks.

Hi @LF33,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop's fan issue might be related to either a software or hardware problem. Let's troubleshoot step by step.

Software Troubleshooting:

  • Check Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and see if any programs are consuming high CPU resources. Close any unnecessary programs that might be causing the system to overheat.
  • Update Drivers: Make sure all your device drivers, especially for the chipset and graphics card, are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause system instability.
  • Windows Update: Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is fully up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates can include fixes for such issues.
  • HP Support Assistant: Install or update HP Support Assistant. This utility can help diagnose hardware and software issues specific to your HP Pavilion laptop.

Hardware Troubleshooting:

  • Dust and Debris: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate inside the laptop, obstructing airflow and causing the fan to work harder. Consider cleaning the vents and fan using compressed air.
  • Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the fan physically to ensure that it's not physically damaged or obstructed.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: HP laptops often have built-in hardware diagnostic tools that can help identify any hardware issues. Check your laptop's documentation or HP's website for instructions on how to run these diagnostics.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10 or F2 during startup) and check if there are any fan control options available. Make sure the fan settings are set to default or optimized.

Regarding the missing "Coolsense" feature, it's possible that it's not available on your model or may have been integrated differently.

As for issues after Windows 11 updates, while it's not uncommon for updates to cause unexpected problems, specific issues can vary widely depending on the hardware and software configuration. Keeping your system updated with the latest drivers and patches can often help mitigate such issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
