I've had the laptop about 2 weeks now and whilst it goes to sleep when you close the lid, the fans stay running and continue to run. The bottom of the case gets very hot also.
I don't have anything left running and I can see in event viewer that the laptop went to sleep and then woke up when I opened the lid:
Event 506 - The system is entering Modern Standby
Event 507 - The system is exiting Modern Standby - Lid
If the fans were on they remain on and if they weren't they kick in after a short time. The fans don't then seem to ever stop running. Unfortunately they are not quiet little fans either, so it sound like a jumbo is taking off.
I've checked the command centre and I've tried all 3 configurations (balanced, performance and cool) and they behave the same way as the Smart Sense, which was the default.
This surely can't be right?

Hi @MikeyTT
Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.
I see that you are facing fan-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.
May I know from when are you facing this issue?
Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
Since it is a new system, I would suggest you update all the drivers and Windows on it. Here is a link that will help you update drivers: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
To update Windows, select Start > Settings > Windows Update , then select Check for updates. If updates are available, you can choose to install them.
Display timeout has been moved to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings, on active Power Plan choose Change Plan Settings then adjust Display timeout.
While there check also Advanced plan settings > Sleep > Allow Wake Timers > under Battery & Plug In options set to Enable, Apply, Save.
f your Power Options settings are set correctly then the next suspect is the screensaver which is mysteriously setting a 1 minute timeout to blank Screensaver when some Themes are chosen. Check that now at Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen > Screen Saver Settings.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Yes" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping.

Thanks for the message, but I've already escalated and have a ticket assigned to investigate. It's 5088018494 for reference. I'm waiting a callback after providing more information.
It's not just isolated to the fans unfortunately, I have an issue getting applications to use the NVidia GPU and I have an odd momentary pause/hang behaviour when I'm scrolling through documents or web pages.
