Hello, I have problem with one game. When I try to start it, there shows up notification that game cant be started and crash.
Its "LowLevelFatalError (File:unknown) (Line: 198)
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x0-S_OK)"
Other games works normally for me, how can I fix this?
Tried many things already, but nothing really helped.

Hi @Ferdamys, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "LowLevelFatalError (File: Unknown) (Line: 198) Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x0-S_OK)" error is common in Unreal Engine games and usually indicates an issue with DirectX, GPU drivers, or system stability. Since other games work fine for you, the issue is likely specific to this game or how it interacts with your system.
Fixes to Try
Here’s a structured approach to resolving the issue:
Update Graphics Drivers
Even if other games work fine, outdated or corrupt drivers can cause issues.
- NVIDIA: Download and install the latest drivers from NVIDIA's official website.
- AMD: Download and install the latest drivers from AMD's official website.
- Intel (if applicable): Download the latest from Intel’s official website.
Disable Overclocking (If Applicable)
If you have overclocked your GPU or CPU, try resetting them to default settings using:
- BIOS for CPU overclocking
- MSI Afterburner or similar tools for GPU overclocking
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
- Right-click the game’s .exe file.
- Go to Properties > Compatibility.
- Check "Disable fullscreen optimizations".
- Click Apply and OK.
Set the Game to Use DirectX 11
If the game is running on DirectX 12, forcing DirectX 11 might help:
- Open the game's launcher (Steam, Epic Games, etc.).
- Go to Game Properties.
- Add -dx11 to the launch options.
Alternatively, in GameUserSettings.ini (usually found in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\GameName\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor), set:
[SystemSettings]
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=1
r.DX12Enable=0
r.DX11Enable=1
Increase TDR Delay (Windows Registry Edit)
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Right-click on an empty space and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name it TdrDelay, double-click it, and set the value to 10.
- Restart your PC.

Lower Graphics Settings
If the game launches sometimes but crashes randomly:
- Set graphics to Low/Medium.
- Reduce the resolution.
- Disable Ray Tracing, DLSS, or FSR (if available).
Verify Game Files
- Steam: Right-click the game → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Epic Games: Click Settings under the game and choose Verify.
Reinstall DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables
- Download the latest DirectX Runtime from Microsoft.
- Download Visual C++ Redistributables from Microsoft.
Try Running in Windowed Mode
- Add -windowed -noborder to the game's launch options.
Reinstall the Game
If nothing else works, uninstall and reinstall the game. Sometimes, a fresh install resolves corrupt files causing crashes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Max, thanks for reply me back.
I tried myself so many ways you wrote before and what i found on redit or youtube but nothing from it worked. As reinstal or verify game, update graphic, windows, bios, add more time for delay, add codes in game on steam such as -d11, run nvidia as high priority, restart laptop.....
I found solution by myself with help from support team. I ll post it below, so others know how to solve it, if they have same problem.
Ok you have 2 ways how to solve it. Problem is in nvidia graphic card. I personally have intel and nvidia in my laptop. So in device manager - graphic settings you just disable (stop) nvidia and run game with intel. Second way is if you have set ur laptop monitor scale on reccomended 125% , just change it on 100%. Files and icons will be smaller, but game will run and you can change it back after game. Same with nvidia graphic. Hope this will help someone with same issue. 😊
