Hi @LIlly291,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP 10bII+ financial calculator is consistently showing "no solution" when trying to solve for ( n ) (the number of periods) or ( i ) (interest rate), it could be due to several reasons. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you might consider:

Troubleshooting Steps

Reset the Calculator:

  • Sometimes, resetting the calculator can resolve unexpected behavior. You can perform a reset by pressing the small reset button usually located on the back of the calculator. Refer to the user manual for location specifics.

Correct Input Values:

  • Ensure that the input values for your calculations are entered correctly. For financial calculations like solving for ( n ) or ( i ), ensure that you're inputting positive numbers for present value (PV), future value (FV), and payments (PMT) when necessary.

Default Settings:

  • Check that your calculator is using default settings. Pressing Shift + C ALL can clear all previous calculation entries and returns the calculator to its default state.

Check Mode Settings:

  • Verify if your calculator is in the correct mode (Begin/End) for your financial calculations. This can directly affect results, especially for annuities.

Battery Check:

  • If the calculator is behaving erratically, the battery might be low. Consider replacing it with a fresh battery if it’s been a while since the last replacement.

Review Calculation Setup:

  • Double-check the order and type of values you are entering. For instance, financial calculations often require inputs for FV, PV, PMT, and when missing a necessary input, it might not be able to derive ( n ) or ( i ).

I hope this helps.
