Fingerprint Issue

Does the HP EliteBook 840 G6 Model have a fingerprint sensor? It appears that there is one located in the bottom right corner, but how can I confirm whether my PC has one that works? Please note that biometrics do not appear in Device Manager.

The fingerprint reader is an OPTION that must be purchased with the computer or added later (see service guide for part(s) and installation procedure).

The little box on your keyboard is likely just a plain, blank cover.

True - little covered box is matches keyboard top cover and looks like a fingerprint reader.

Fingerprint reader

Depending on the model, the fingerprint sensor might be integrated into the top cover / keyboard area.  Check your system’s user manual.

Reminder:  If the system does not have a fingerprint sensor, there might be a "cover plate" in place of the sensor.

If your system does not have a fingerprint sensor and the option is available for your model series, the sensor can be purchased and installed.

Device Manager > Biometric devices > Fingerprint sensor (if listed)

Example Plate - Device Manager > Biometric devices > Fingerprint reader
