Hello ti_sdt,

Thank you for your query

If the fingerprint sensor on your HP EliteBook 850 G8 Notebook is not showing up in Device Manager and is not working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Troubleshoot Fingerprint Sensor Issue

  1. Check BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. Look for any options related to the fingerprint sensor to ensure that it is enabled.
  2. Update BIOS:

    • Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve hardware issues. Ensure your BIOS is updated by checking on the HP Support website for the latest version.
  3. Ensure Windows is Updated:

    • Make sure your Windows 11 operating system is fully updated. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any available updates.
  4. Install or Update Drivers:

  5. Enable Biometric Devices in Device Manager:

    • Check if the biometric devices are enabled in Device Manager. If the biometric device section is missing, it may indicate a driver issue.
  6. Reinstall the Driver:

    • If the fingerprint sensor is visible under 'Biometric devices' but not functioning, you might want to uninstall the driver from Device Manager and then reinstall the latest driver from the HP website.
  7. Run Hardware Diagnostic Tools:

    • Use HP's hardware diagnostic tools to check the fingerprint sensor's condition. You can download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows from the HP Support site.
  8. Check with HP Support:

    • If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem, and it would be beneficial to contact HP Support for further assistance.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the fingerprint sensor issue on your HP EliteBook 850 G8. If the problem persists, reaching out to HP's technical support might be necessary for an in-depth examination or repair.
