Hi @DESKTOP-6S8STRM,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP PC fingerprint reader is not working on Windows 11, here are the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Fingerprint Reader Hardware
- Make sure your PC actually has a fingerprint reader.
- It may be located on the side, keyboard, or palm rest.
2. Re-Enable Fingerprint in Windows Hello
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello), click Remove if already set up.
- Then click Set up and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Make sure your finger is clean and dry.
- Use different angles to capture the full fingerprint.

3. Update or Reinstall Fingerprint Driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Biometric Devices.
- Right-click the fingerprint device > Update driver.
- If that doesn’t help, choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC.
4. Run Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates.
- This can fix compatibility issues with Windows Hello.
5. Reset Windows Hello
If the fingerprint option is missing:
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and check if the fingerprint sign-in option appears.
- If not, reset Windows Hello:
- Go to Sign-in options > Remove Fingerprint > Set up again.
