I have an HP ProBook 470 GS.  I (try to) use the Fingerprint recogniser to log on.

This works about 50% of the time fine.  The other 50% it fails.  From the sounds/looks of it, it is not my fingerprint which is the issue, rather the driver is failing to work.  When it fails it do NOT get sound to indicate "fingerprint not recognised", rather I get no sound at all, just nothing happens.  I have to reboot the laptop, then it will work.  This happens all the time, like I say about the half of the time, and is really irritating.

This has been happening for years under Windows 10.  Recently I upgraded to Windows 11, but the same behaviour persists.  The driver I see is "Synaptics FP Sensors (W8F) (PID=003f)".  It is dated 25/07/2018 and is Version 4.5.701.0.  Windows Update tells me I already have "the best driver for this device".

Any thoughts/similar experience/help?  Assuming the issue is that sometimes the driver does not start properly, for unknown reason, can I get a diagnostic/log file from Windows which has logged a problem when I start up?

Thank you in advance.
