Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here might have a solution.

I’m using an HP ENVY x360 laptop and the fingerprint recognition has stopped working. I tried removing the sign-in option under Account > Sign-in options, but that didn’t fix it.

When I click “Set up another finger,” it takes me to the Windows Hello setup. I hit “Get started,” then it says “Touch the fingerprint sensor.” However, when I place my finger on the sensor, nothing happens at all. I’ve tried multiple times with no response.

Has anyone run into this issue or know how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @anerjaco,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When the fingerprint reader does not respond during Windows Hello setup, on the HP Envy x360, it usually indicates a driver or configuration issue. Please follow these HP-approved steps:

1. Verify Fingerprint Sensor in Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X, select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Biometric Devices
    • If you see Synaptics WBDI or Validity Sensor, right-click and select Update driver.
    • If the device is missing or shows an error, proceed to step 2.

2. Reinstall Fingerprint Driver

  1. Go to the official HP support page for your model: 👉 Official HP® Support
  2. Download and install the latest Fingerprint Sensor Driver listed under Driver – Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices.
  3. Restart your computer after installation.

3. Check BIOS Settings

  1. Restart your PC and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Navigate to Security → Device Security.
  3. Ensure the Fingerprint Sensor is enabled.
  4. Save changes and exit.

4. Reset Windows Hello

  1. Go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options.
  2. Remove all existing fingerprints.
  3. Click Set up again after reinstalling the driver.

5. Update System Firmware and Drivers

6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hey Vikram,

Thanks for the reply! I actually figured it out shortly after posting here, before your response; I thought I had deleted my post....but nonetheless, I appreciate your response!
