I have recently updated to windows 11. Now my finger scanner doesn't work. Settings says We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello Fingerprint. How can I fix this issue so I can log into my computer with this function restored without going back to windows 10.

Hi @John849,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your fingerprint scanner is not working after updating to Windows 11, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Check for Updates: Ensure that your operating system and drivers are up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any available updates. Install any pending updates, including driver updates.
  • Update Fingerprint Driver: Check if there is an updated driver for your fingerprint scanner. You can do this by visiting the official HP support website for your laptop model (HP Pavilion X360 14-Cd1009na) and downloading the latest driver for the fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows 11.
  • Device Manager: Open the Device Manager and locate the fingerprint scanner under "Biometric devices" or "Human Interface Devices." Right-click on the fingerprint scanner and select "Update driver." Choose the option to search for updated driver software automatically.
  • Biometric Service: Make sure that the Biometric service is running. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter. Locate the "Biometric Enrollment Service" and ensure that it is set to "Automatic" and is running.
  • Windows Hello Settings: Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Under Windows Hello, remove your existing fingerprint and set it up again. Sometimes, re-registering your fingerprint can resolve issues.
  • Check Biometric Devices in Settings: Go to Settings > Devices > Biometric devices. Ensure that your fingerprint scanner is recognized and listed as a compatible device.
  • Driver Rollback: If the issue started after a recent driver update, you can try rolling back to the previous driver. In Device Manager, right-click on the fingerprint scanner, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and choose "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it's possible that the fingerprint scanner may not yet have full compatibility with Windows 11. In that case, keep an eye on HP's official website for future driver updates or patches that address Windows 11 compatibility issues with your specific laptop model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
