Hello!

Is there a way to force the BIOS update programs to flash the BIOS entirely in Windows?  I know that is not the ideal or recommended way to do things, but it is the only way that has worked so far.  I was able to update from F.12 to F.14 this way.  The problem is, I don't know how I made it flash in Windows, because every other time I've tried, it only gives me the three options of loading the update files and restarting, creating a recovery USB, which never works, or saving the files somewhere on the PC.

If I can provide any further information, pleas let me know.

Hello @zeusakatkm

I would like to help you.

(1) Update BIOS

HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)

Why should you install the update ?

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:

  • An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
  • The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
  • HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.

(2Reboot

(3) Let BIOS be installed until it's completely done !

(4) You're done

As I mentioned in my post, that method does not work.  When I do it that way, the computer reboots to a black screen and never does anything.

Hello @zeusakatkm

I strongly advise you to go back to Windows 10 as your notebook model

is not fully tested and certified by HP for Windows 11.

(1) Install < windows 10 >

You need to prepare <USB flash drive>

--- Solution ---  A)

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 10

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4511095-4511141-16

( All software and drivers from HP are already included  )

--- Solution ---  B)

Use official Microsoft method:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

After installation is done, get software and drivers

-> OMEN Laptop - 15-dh1087nr

( Choose operating system option <Windows 10 Version 20H2 (64-bit)> )

(2) Please report your results

There is no reason it shouldn't be.  Windows 10 gives me the same issue.

Hello @zeusakatkm

I think our options are exhausted...

Sorry, but in your case: Service is required !

HP warranty valid -> Contact HP Support

HP warranty expired:

- The computer should be disassembled and checked.
- Thermal paste for CPU GPU and bridges must be renewed
- The function of the fan(s) must be checked

Short circuit test

- ( if required ) Bios (chip) desolder, reflash, Bios (chip) solder in

- charger/battery test

- Components test

- General cleaning ...

If you can't do that, you should have it <serviced> by a professional notebook (chip level) repair store.

Good luck

Ok, but you still didn't answer my original question.  I successfully updated from F.12 to F.14 because the bios was flashed completely in windows.  So far, I've been unable to recreate that, even using the exact same download.

 Answer is No.

The bios setup in Windows is used to <prepare> the UEFI boot area for bios update.

Bios update itself is performed at [post] boot time, not in Windows !

It has to be possible somehow, I watched it happen.
