Free 365 is just "Trial Software"
Likely just a 30 days "test run" and maybe not the full package at that...

That said, I do not know how to load Office software into Windows in S Mode.
Windows "S" mode is an odd, limited version of Windows.
Check to see if the Office 365 is available from the Microsoft Store
Why?
Windows S mode ONLY allows installation of applications from the Microsoft Store
