I have HP Victus 16. When i try to open any game in hybrid mode, games give an error like your graphic card doesn't work or crashed. I have to play games in discrete mode everytime. How can i solve this?

Hi @emirhannas,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with playing games on hybrid mode on your Laptop.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
Please follow the below steps to fix the issue.
-Perform a power drain on your PC.
1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.
5) Power on the PC and wait for the PC to boot into Windows now.
Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system by following the below steps.
go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.
If the issue still persists, follow the below steps to further troubleshoot.
1. Update GPU Drivers
Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause issues in Hybrid Mode. You should update both your integrated and discrete GPU drivers.
- For Intel integrated GPU: Go to the Intel Driver & Support Assistant and let it detect and update the drivers.
- For NVIDIA GPU: Go to the NVIDIA GeForce drivers download page and use the auto-detect tool or manually select your GPU model.
- For AMD GPU: If your Victus has an AMD GPU, you can update it using the AMD Driver Support.
Once the drivers are updated, restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.
2. Reconfigure Graphics Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings
If you're using an NVIDIA or AMD discrete GPU, make sure that the Hybrid Mode settings are correctly configured:
For NVIDIA GPUs:
- Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Under 3D Settings, select Manage 3D Settings.
- Look for a setting like Preferred Graphics Processor and ensure that Auto or Hybrid is selected (depending on the options).
- Under Global Settings, ensure that the discrete GPU (NVIDIA) is set as the preferred option when running games or other intensive applications.
For AMD GPUs:
- Right-click on the desktop and open AMD Radeon Settings.
- Navigate to System > Switchable Graphics.
- Make sure the game or app you want to run is set to use the High-Performance option (discrete GPU).
3. Disable Hybrid Mode (if needed)
If you're still having issues, you could consider disabling Hybrid Mode altogether and always using the discrete GPU for gaming. This can improve performance but will consume more battery.
- For NVIDIA GPUs:
- Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Under 3D Settings, set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
- For AMD GPUs:
- Open AMD Radeon Settings.
- Under System > Switchable Graphics, set your games to always use the High-Performance mode (discrete GPU).
4. Check Power Settings
Ensure that your laptop’s power settings are configured to allow both GPUs to work optimally:
- Open the Control Panel and go to Power Options.
- Select High Performance or Balanced mode.
- If you’re on a battery saver plan, Hybrid Mode might not work correctly since the laptop tries to use the integrated GPU to save power.
5. Reinstall Graphics Drivers
If all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling both the integrated and discrete GPU drivers. To do this:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager).
- Expand Display adapters, right-click on the graphics drivers, and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart the laptop.
- Reinstall the latest drivers from Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD (depending on your setup).
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
