Hi @KateMat,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check the Power Source

  • Verify the AC Outlet: Ensure that the outlet is functioning by plugging another device into it.
  • Connections: Check if the power cord and AC adapter connections are secure.

2. Test the AC Adapter

  • Visual Inspection: Inspect the adapter for any signs of damage.
  • Use a Different AC Adapter: If available, use another compatible AC adapter to see if the issue persists.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Shut Down: Turn off your laptop and disconnect all external devices.
  2. Unplug the Power Cord: Remove the power cord and any connected batteries.
  3. Press and Hold the Power Button: Hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the Power Cord: Plug the AC adapter back in and attempt to turn on the laptop.

4. Test the Battery

  • Remove the Battery: If your model allows, remove the battery and plug the laptop directly into the AC adapter.
  • Functionality: If the laptop turns on without the battery using AC power, the battery may need replacement.

5. Run Battery Diagnostic

  1. Open HP Support Assistant: Search for HP Support Assistant in Windows and open the application.
  2. Battery Test: Navigate to the "Battery Check" option under "Troubleshooting and fixes" to run a diagnostic.

6. Update Drivers

  • Check for Updates: Ensure your laptop’s BIOS and drivers are up-to-date using HP Support Assistant or visiting the HP Support website.

7. Change Power Settings

  1. Open Power Options: Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
  2. Change Plan Settings: Ensure the power plan is set to "Balanced" and check advanced settings for battery usage.

I hope it helps.

Hi @AngieM00-home59,

Thank you for the response.

Here's what you can try next.

Test a Different Charger (if you can)

If you have access to another HP-compatible charger—even a friend’s—try using it. If that one works, your current charger may be fried or the AC adapter is weak.

Check Charger and Port

Inspect the charging port on your laptop for wobbling, bent pins, or dust buildup.

Gently blow inside the port or use a soft brush.

If it’s loose or physically damaged, the laptop may think it’s plugged in, but it’s not making full contact.

Try Booting Without the Battery

If your Pavilion has a removable battery:

Remove the battery.

Plug in the charger only.

Try to power on the laptop.

If it doesn’t turn on even with the battery removed, then it’s not the battery, it’s likely the charger or motherboard power circuitry.

Hard Reset Again, Carefully

Sometimes it needs a deeper reset:

Power off.

Unplug the charger.

Remove battery (if removable).

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Plug the charger in without the battery, then try powering on.

If it works now, yay! 🎉 If not, move to the next step.

BIOS Battery Test

If you can get it to turn on even for a few minutes:

Press Esc repeatedly when turning on the laptop → Enter Startup Menu.

Choose F2 for System Diagnostics.

Select Battery Test and run it.

If the battery health says “Replace,” then sadly it’s done.😔

I hope this helps.
