Trying to switch from the Ubuntu LTS back to whatever the operating system was on my HP pavilion dv6000 they don't know what the operating system is as far as the default one goes but I know it's windows

The dv6000 model series originally shipped with Windows Vista.

 

You'd have to check the bottom of the notebook's case to see if you can still read the Vista product key and the version of Windows Vista the key is good for (Basic, Home Premium or Professional).

 

Unfortunately, you would have to find a Windows Vista installation DVD from eBay or somewhere similar.

 

FWIW, I suggest you stay on Ubuntu or you may want to try Zorin OS as an alternative.
