Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP ENVY 13 laptop user here. Now it comes to an issue. All of my camera photos on iPhone 15 are saved in .heic format. When I copied them to my laptop, Windows 10 OS refuses to open the heic file. And I am unable to view heic images in Windows 10.

Is there any heic view app available on Windows 10 to help me out? I tried two image extensions from Microsoft App Store but they did not work at all.

Searching for an HEIC Viewer to view HEIC images on Windows 10 HP Envy laptop? I totally get where you're coming from! HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) is fab for saving storage space, but not all programs can open it, which can lead to a bit of a headache.

I suggest converting heic to jpg so you can easily view and edit jpg files on Windows PC.

Here is a quick guide: https://www.tunesbro.com/user-guide/heic-converter.html

Viewing HEIC images on Windows 10 can be a bit of a hassle. The built-in support for HEIC on Windows 10 isn’t exactly stellar. You need to install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, but honestly, it can be buggy. I had this one time where I thought I installed it, but it didn’t work correctly, and my HEIC files just wouldn’t show up. Super annoying!

Another downside to converting HEIC files is the potential for loss in quality or metadata. HEIC supports higher quality and more efficient storage, but once you convert it to JPEG, you might lose that crispness. Plus, you might lose any metadata like location or editing history, which could be a bummer if you like keeping track of that stuff.

HEIC files aren’t fully integrated like good ol' JPEGs. Even if you install the official HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, you might still run into issues—like glitches or crashes. I’ve seen people get super frustrated because the viewer doesn't always display images correctly or at all.

Even if you want to view HEIC images on Windows 10 HP Envy laptop, you might find yourself constantly converting HEIC to more common formats like JPG or PNG just to make them usable. This extra step can be annoying, especially if you have a bunch of images to go through. Who wants to spend time converting files instead of just enjoying the photos, right?

If you plan to edit HEIC images using typical editing software, you might face hiccups because not all programs support HEIC. Even with installed extensions, some tools just don’t play nice. It can be a major bummer if you’re trying to tweak photos or create something cool.

When I first switched to using a Windows laptop, I was confused about why all my cool new iPhone pics wouldn’t open. After a bit of digging, I found that simple HEIF extension in the Microsoft Store, and it saved me. Seriously, once I had that installed, all my issues were gone, and I could view everything in the Photos app like normal. I even preferred it over downloading bulky software.

If you want something else, there are a bunch of HEIC Viewer software for Windows 10 that can do the trick. Here are a couple that have worked great for me:

  • IrfanView: This is a classic! It’s super lightweight and can view HEIC files after you install the necessary plugin. Just download it from the official site, and don’t forget the HEIC plugin from the plugins page.

You might need to grab the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store for free. Here’s how:

  • Open the Microsoft Store and search for HEIF Image Extensions.
  • Hit Install (no payment required). This will enable the Photos app to read HEIC files directly.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Coding) is a modern image file format that offers superior compression and quality compared to traditional formats like JPEG. Developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), HEIC is widely used by Apple devices (iPhones, iPads) and some Android devices for storing photos. However, Windows users may encounter difficulties viewing HEIC files natively. Here's why and how you can resolve the issue.

Why can't you view HEIC Files in Windows? Windows 10 versions prior to the April 2018 Update (version 1803) do not support HEIC files natively. Even in newer versions, the built-in Windows Photos app may not recognize HEIC files without additional codecs or extensions. HEIC relies on specific codecs to decode and display images. Without these codecs installed, Windows cannot interpret the file format.

Fortunately, Microsoft provides official extensions (HEIF Image Extensions) to add HEIC support to Windows 10 and later versions. After installing this heic viewer software, you are able to open heic images in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

To view HEIC images on Windows 10. Apowersoft Free HEIC Converter is an online tool that allows you to convert HEIC files to JPG or other formats without downloading any software. You can use it to convert your HEIC images to more commonly supported formats for easier viewing.

  1. Find the Apowersoft Free HEIC Converter in your Start menu or desktop and open it.
  2. Click on the “Add HEIC Files” button or you can simply drag and drop your HEIC files into the program window. You can also browse your directories to locate and select the HEIC images you want to convert.
  3. After adding the files, you’ll see options to select the output format. Choose between JPEG or PNG, depending on your preference. You can also adjust the quality settings if you want, though the defaults are usually good enough.
  4. Click on the “Convert” button to begin the conversion process. When prompted, decide where you want to save the converted files. You can choose an existing folder or create a new one.
  5. Once the conversion is complete. Navigate to the folder where you saved the converted files. Double-click on the JPEG or PNG files to view them. They should open in your default image viewer.
