How to enable hands free for ALexa in Dh1179TU?

Whether you can enable "hands-free" Alexa depends on your computer model and whether that model includes Alexa as a built-in option.

If your system includes "Built-in Alexa"...

Then

The computer is "acoustically tuned" to use Alexa.

Built-in Alexa is a feature added to a few HP models offered in your region (starting sometime in 2019?) and some "not HP" models, too.

What is "built-in Alexa"?

The "built in" means that you can use the "Speak to Alexa" functionality, that is, talk to Alexa to wake up the application.

PC's without the built-in Alexa functionality can still use Alexa for PC but (the user) will have to press the button in the application to "wake Alexa".

Just having the built-in bits acoustic ability to let you "talk to Alexa" is not enough.  You need the Application.

According to the Amazon website, that means that you should get the application from the Windows Store.

Where to download:

Open your browser > open Amazon website, and look for "Alexa for PC"

Thanks for sharing this. My laptop model is DH1179TU and it does have "Built-in Alexa". Bu how can I check if it has the option of Handsfree mode while using Alexa. I do see that option in the setting but I am not able to enable it? Does it mean that this model does not support that? or does it mean some setting or product version issue?

You are welcome.

Third party software can be tricky - we (the Community) lack any influence or control on how or whether third party applications work as expected.

The information I found on this subject:

  • PC must include the "built-in Alexa" - you have said this is the case.
  • You must install the Alexa for PC application (Amazon says this is the case).

In so much that I am aware, that's it.

I don't have a system that supports acoustically tuned Alexa (built-in Alexa) and I cannot test any of the settings or the setup in the application for you.   (Frankly, I'd not test it anyway - I do not want Alexa on my devices:  Nice software, but overly nosey, in my opinion.)

Assuming the HP Store from whom you purchased the computer confirms that built-in Alexa is supported on your model, you might be able to get help from Amazon.  Alexa is Amazon software.
