HP Notebook - 14-dq0002dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I've been using this laptop since I bought it over two years ago and I'm extremely satisfied. Not only am I able to watch videos, process documents, etc. but also play a lot of games -- even resource-heavy. Recently, I've been yearning for a memory upgrade. However, I'm limited in options due to unavailability for this model (laptop) except for one: Kingston 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 SODIMM Fury Impact.

Is it possible that my laptop will adapt to this brand and specs of memory?

Thank you for reading.

Hi:

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that memory will work because it has much faster timings (CL15) than a standard DDR4-2666 MHz memory chip has.

You cannot go into the BIOS and change the memory timing/XMP profile.

If the BIOS cannot automatically compensate for the much faster timing, the notebook will not boot up.

You will need to find either an 8 GB DDR4-2400 CL17, DDR4-2666 CL19, or DDR4-3200 CL22 memory chip for best results.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the memory removal and replacement procedure.

Thank you for your swift reply. I will check the memory you've suggested!

Regarding the timings, it is very frustrating that the BIOS for this model has its timings locked and encoded, impossible to manipulate.

Thank you once again.

You're very welcome.

See if you can buy this part number in your country.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I've located all the memories for Kingston you wrote.

I even found another one:

SODIMM Notebook Memory HP S1 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22

Would the HP S1 one work?

You're very welcome.

Looking at the product sheet for the HP memory, I believe that it should work fine.

The memory chip is primarily used in the HP business class notebooks so it should be of good quality.

Note that any memory you install that is faster than DDR4-2400 will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz because that is as fast as your notebook's Intel® Celeron® Processor N4020 processor can run the memory at.

Hello Paul,

I've successfully installed the HP (8GB) memory, and everything went smoothly. 🙂

That's great news.

Thanks for letting us know how your notebook's memory upgrade project went.

Cheers,
