Could somebody help us find the HP software that came on our laptop when we got it please?

It is the software package that you see on bootup.

Plus it seems to have all the drivers.

We used to be able to download it from support for this laptop.

We put in a new hard drive and are working away to get it running right.

Thanks!

You're very welcome.

What you can try is to use the drivers and software from the HP2000z-2a00 model which is basically the same model as yours, but was a bit older so it has W7 drivers and software.

Do not use the BIOS or firmware files though.

If you want to install W8.1, let me know, and I will give you the instructions to create bootable W8.1 installation media and use the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

Another option would be to try the free upgrade from W7 to W10.

W10's GUI is more like W7's than W8 or 8.1

Just click on the Blue Update Now button at the link below to upgrade to W10 for free.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

You have 30 days to go back to W7 if things don't work right on W10, or you don't like W10, as long as you don't delete any of the installation files, or Windows.old folder.

Hi:

Your notebook originally came with Windows 8.

You can try the available W8 software from the support page at the link below and hope it works on W7.

Thank you Paul

Yes.Windows 8 sounds right. Then we backed up to 7 Pro because we did not like 8.You could set the desktop to look like 7 thought.

As of right now we do not have any Windows 8 disks here to upgrade.

Tried 'Identify Drivers' link.It did not work.Probably because it was looking for Windows 8.1 It just kept spinning. We ended it.

So.HP package will probably not work.

Situation now is this:

1 We need a touch pad driver.Windows shows 'PS/2 Mouse'. Pointer is erratic sometimes.Highlighting,etc.

2 Need to fix that 'Authentic Certificate' problem. It is stopping our downloads. Like Adobe and Windows Update

It is a big problem.

Thanks again!

EDIT Here is the screenshot of Certificate error while attempting to update Windows Defender

Thank you Paul.

Okay.Went ahead and did the Windows 10 upgrade.

It has an 'Upgrade Your PC' or 'Create Disk' option. We went with upgrade.

Big thing is this gets us back in with our MIcrosoft support. They were playing hardball about no more Windows 7 support.

It is upgrading now.

Thank you again!

Have a nice day.

Hi Paul

UPDATE

Windows 10 upgrade did not work.

You did say something about instructions.

Maybe we do need them.

Thanks again!

Hi, Bob:

Sorry the auto update to W10 didn't work.

OK, here are the instructions to install W8.1...

Here is how you can reinstall W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC...You want the plain W8.1 64 bit ISO file.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

At the beginning of the installation routine, you can delete every partition on there.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from the  PC's support page.

Hi Paul

Thank you for responding.

Well.We are just going to buy Windows 10

In that 'Keep it simple.'

We got by with Windows 7 a couple of times but it is getting a little too rough now.

Have a nice day
