Microsoft Windows 11

I have an 840 G6 on which the WiFi and Bluetooth have stopped working. The adapter has disappeared from Device Manager and UEFI BIOS diagnotics returns "Wireless Module Not Installed'. I've reinstalled drivers, pulled the battery and rebooted, and tried three different new modules that should have been compatible. I still get " Wireless Module Not Installed".

Is there anything else to try before I get a dongle?

Hello @againno,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Based on the symptoms you’re seeing, this is unfortunately not a driver or OS issue, and you’ve already done the right troubleshooting.

When HP UEFI Diagnostics reports “Wireless Module Not Installed” and the adapter is missing from Device Manager, the system is not electrically detecting the WLAN card at all.

Here are some additional suggestions:

Verify BIOS Settings:

Access the BIOS by restarting your laptop and pressing F10 as it starts.

Check if the wireless module is enabled in the BIOS. Navigate to "Advanced" or "System Configuration" settings, ensuring that the wireless options are activated.

Inspect and Reseat Hardware:

Given the error in UEFI diagnostics, it's possible there is a physical connection issue.

If comfortable doing so, verify the physical connection of the wireless module to the motherboard. Reseat it to ensure it is properly connected.

Perform a Hard Reset:

Turn off your laptop and disconnect all peripherals.

Remove the battery (if applicable) and unplug the AC adapter.

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual power.

Reconnect the battery and power on the device.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool to run hardware tests. This might provide a more detailed report of the issue.

BIOS Update:

Ensure that your BIOS version is up-to-date. Visit the HP support website to download the latest BIOS update for your model.

Restore BIOS Default Settings:

Enter the BIOS and select the option to restore all settings to default. This can sometimes resolve detection issues.

Confirm Wireless Module Compatibility:

Double-check that the wireless modules you tried are officially compatible with the EliteBook 840 G6.

If after trying these steps the issue persists, using an external USB WiFi and Bluetooth adapter may be a practical alternative to regain connectivity.

Hope this help. Please feel free to contact us back with the outcome.
